I am setting this film photography blog aside for a time to work on a new project that the patron insists be done in color, with a digital camera. A brave new world for me.
I haven’t posted for a while because I haven’t taken any film pictures since November. I have film in several of my all-manual cameras but increasing vision related focus issues and camera shake over the past year have reduced my number of “keepers” to nearly zero and I am tired of developing and digitizing the negatives with so little to show for the effort. Did you ever take a picture which was a failure by any objective standard but which showed you something important? The above is one such picture for me. Continue reading “The Eye of the Beholder”
A new thread recently started on the Leica Forum, for pictures taken 30 or more years ago. I got out my binders of contact sheets of my older negatives to look for something I might post. A recent fall put me out of commission for a while, hence no posts here, and got me to finally admit that walking around town looking for photo opportunities might not be the best way for an elderly man with compromised balance and failing eyesight to pursue his interest in photography. I need to stay a lot closer to home. Continue reading “Change of Direction”
One reason I started this blog was as a repository for contributions to online discussions of technical photography issues that I find myself making over and over again. It will be easier to point to this post the next time someone complains that their software’s panorama function is not doing what they expected when stitching negative scans. Continue reading “Stitching Negative Scans”
I am back early from camping in the mountains of New York State. It rained almost every day, Several of the storms were heavy enough to wash out parts of the roads in the area. Our campsite was so soggy we made squishing sounds when we walked. After three days of that, my wife and I decided we’d had enough. We packed up and came home. It has been raining a lot in New Jersey too, with no immediate end in sight, but we are snug and dry in our house and all of the roads are in good condition. Continue reading “Rain!”
